Kilimanjaro route: Shira

Shira runs parallel to lemosho route starting on the west of the kilimanjaro massif. Shira is widely considered to be among the most scenic routes up Kilimanjaro, with plenty of opportunity for wildlife viewing. However the first two days of rainforest on Lemosho route are infinitely preferable to Shira which commences on a 4WD track through tree plantations and heath.

The advantage of taking Shira is that a visit to the north flank of Kilimanjaro may be included within an eight days programme.

Shira route is usually completed in 7 or 8 days.
